Only good things could be ahead when this …
and this …
and this …
get together with this …
…it’s homemade sauce for dinner tonight!
I simply love the aroma of garlic and onions simmering on the stove. Even better when the other ingredients are added and the scent of Mom’s spaghetti sauce fills the air for the next two hours as it simmers on the stove. When I was a little girl, this was the best thing to hit me as I came home from school. I knew it was going to be spaghetti night and that was my favorite meal. Add in an antipasta and tortoni for dessert and that was even better. I used to ask for ravioli for my birthday as a special treat. My dad would tell stories of how his job as the youngest of 11 children was to pinch the dough on the sides with a fork for his mom’s homemade ravioli.
Another simple pleasure was always sitting on the front porch step when I was first married. Our porch was just a stoop really, but we enjoyed sitting close together and talking for a long time. Neighbors might come by and it was a good way to catch up. We don’t do that as often. Sometimes we will sit in chairs in the back and while away the time. But the chairs are separate. Not as easy to nudge or share a laugh or a kiss. Last night the weather was quite balmy especially for our area at this time of year. So we took the opportunity to once again simply sit together on our front step. Kitty boy and Daisy dog joined us.
So on Ravelry, a challenge was posted to knit something representing the harvest time of year. I knit and felted a bag and for the photo shoot, I gathered herbs from my yard. Someone asked if all the herbs were grown by me and I found pleasure in admitting yes, yes they were. Leads me to believe I need to devote some more time to growing and nurturing more of a variety. I found that I enjoyed planning where to take my photo and how I wanted it to look. Again just with my phone, but good fun. Contemplating …to sell my photos again … but this time without meeting anybody’s expectations but mine. Food for thought. I visited the gardens again and will post more from there during the week.
I spent a good deal of time at the barn the past couple of weeks and it was so beautiful.
This year our granddaughter is 11 and still likes to trick or treat. She is nearly the same size as her mom and my other daughter, so it was rather amusing when all three were offered candy when they would walk part of the way up to the doors with her. Next year we think we’re going to up the scare factor at our house. We did it one year and a grown man came by with his child and still remembered it. Wow.
And my daughter took this one of our front porch. I love our home and all its memories.
In the week before…just one short week…I found the time to knit this fabulous spider scarf.
that my birthday and Halloween happened in the space between posts. It was a great day spent at Jones Gap hiking. And dinner outside on the patio of an Italian restaurant.
Our son came home to celebrate with us…a little bit of girl against the big dogs. She held her own!
Daisy didn’t understand why she couldn’t join in.
Think I will close and post some Halloween and barn pix tomorrow. Have a great Saturday wherever you are!
So in honor of this auspicious day, I think I will post. I was trying so hard to post every day and then that became one more thing to have to do. So I let it go. Because I would like it to be fun for me to come here. Instead I’ve been trying to practice more yoga, meditation, definitely more knitting, and more time with my horse. Two of his buddies left the barn that he’s at and he missed them. He kept looking, but they didn’t come back. He has other horses in his herd and I hope he makes some of them his buddies too.
I also remembered why! I didn’t like to dye my hair. Roots… yes roots after only two weeks. So now it’s a lighter shade and short as I begin the return to natural.
I was reading here… http://jamieridlerstudios.ca/full-moon-dreamboards-full-frost-moon… about making a vision board for every full moon. I like the sounds of this and I’m going to begin next month.
